The neck allows us to move our head in almost every direction, but unfortunately, with this flexibility, we are very susceptible to pain and injury.
Forward head posture used to be most common with an older person who would walk bent over. We are now seeing forward head posture or tech neck affect patients as young as teenagers. Every inch your head moves forward adds about 12 pounds of stress on your neck and shoulders.
Neck pain can be very bothersome, and along with tech neck, it can have a variety of causes. Activities and events that affect our neck include extended sitting, poor posture, especially with tech devices, repetitive movement, accidents, falls and blows to the body or head, normal aging, and everyday wear and tear.
While neck pain is common, pain is not normal and is often the result of unbalanced muscle tension. Over time, your posture breaks down and causes unbalanced muscle tension that pulls your spine and puts pressure on your nerves. Our gentle chiropractic approach seeks to restore your posture and balance muscle tension to free the nervous system to heal your body. Patients typically notice an improved ability to turn and tilt the head, reduced pain, soreness, and stiffness.
As you progress through care, we will provide exercises and stretches to help strengthen your neck and maintain your posture.
