Most people have felt the agony and discomfort of back pain. And while chiropractors treat more than just back pain, most people seek out chiropractors in search of relief from their agonizing back pain. The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) reports over 50 percent of all Americans experience back pain symptoms each year. In fact, it’s one of the number one reasons for missed work. Most instances of back pain are caused by injury or muscle strain and can be alleviated with chiropractic care.
How Our Chiropractors Treat Back Pain
We provide adjustments that are gentle, non-invasive, and non-addictive therapy. These adjustments will help to reduce joint restrictions and any misalignments throughout the spine to help reduce inflammation and nerve interference. This will improve function and mobility of your back and your nervous system. When your spine is aligned, your nervous system functions better, giving your body a chance to heal itself.
Our gentle hands-on chiropractic adjustments focus on postural correction to align the spine. The fascia, muscles, tendons and ligaments in our body hold our bones in place and provide the movement needed for us to enjoy life. Our posture is impacted by our daily activities. If not corrected, postural distortions such as forward head posture, curvature of the spine, low hips, low shoulders, etc result in stress on our body and spine which puts pressure on our nervous system, resulting in dysfunction in our body.
The goal of any adjustment is to help you improve your physical functioning and relieve your back pain. Our method releases tension in the body that is causing the postural distortions. Muscles have memory, so the body has a tendency to move back toward the postural distortion, but over time, the body adapts to the new posture. This helps to relieve the pressure off of the vertebra and the nervous system, so the body will have a better chance to heal itself as designed.
These treatments will take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, and are repeated two times a week until the body holds the best posture it can. At that time, your treatments will typically be spread out to once a week, then every other week, and then longer, if your body and lifestyle allows.
As part of your chiropractic care you will become more aware of your posture and together we will explore what the source of your postural distortions are. As the source is discovered, along with the chiropractic adjustments, we will suggest exercises and stretches that can help reinforce and strengthen your new posture, which may help keep back pain at bay.
